Sheet Music Repertoire – Famous Composers:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Born: Salzburg, Austria, 27 January 1756 – Died: Vienna, Austria, 5 December 1791
Mozart is one of the wonders of music – a seeming genius/savant he would simply write out completed scores (no editing or re-working needed) when they were ‘ready’. His music is both classical in structure and harmony and simply perfect. Unlike Beethoven, Mozart did not seem to be equally gifted with business skills so he died in poverty. Much has been written about his social life and challenges, as well as his music. The movie Amadeus is highly recommended – wonderful acting, scenery, costumes and of course, music. Some of Mozarts most famous works include:
- Violin Concertos
- Piano Concertos
- String Quartets (Eine Kleine Nacht Music – A Little Night Music)
- Symphonies
- Operas (Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute)
- and Choral works.
A recent phenomenon tied to Mozart’s music is labled, “The Mozart Effect” – it seems that music with certain structural properties can aid in the healing process as well as the development of problem solving and other skills. It should be noted that these same features are found in the works of many late Baroque and Classical composers (typically, slow string movements are presented as appropriate for “The Mozart Effect”.)
